The Nero GHG Calculator is a custom-built tool designed to estimate emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3 categories. It uses thousands of secondary emission factors, supports custom emission factors, and helps organisations track emissions across multiple sites and years. The calculator is compliant with GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1 standards.
What’s included in Nero’s carbon footprint assessment?
Our carbon footprint assessment includes calculating Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions based on your organisation’s consumption and activity data. We use the Nero GHG Calculator and support the data collection process by providing templates, guidance, and analysis to improve data accuracy.

Yes, Nero provides support for developing and validating science-based targets in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Nero has so far helped 14 companies achieve validated science based targets through the SBTi.
What reporting options does Nero offer?
Nero offers a range of reporting options, including an annual stakeholder report that summarises emissions data and trends in a engaging report. We also provide a dynamic emissions dashboard, allowing interactive exploration of emissions data through Microsoft PowerBI. SECR and PPN 06/21 reports are automatically produced within the calculator.
What are the costs associated with Nero’s services?
The Nero Calculator uses a turnover based licencing model to ensure accessibility for companies of all sizes. The licence fee starts at £1,100 per year. for companies with less than £1m in turnover. Support is based on the complexity of the reporting company, including how many locations it might have, the breadth of its activities, and the geographic locations it operates in.
Can Nero provide third-party verification for carbon reporting?
Nero's carbon assessments are conducted in a way to allow verification to the ISO 14064-3 standard, which we highly recommended. This process involves an accredited verification body verifying the carbon footprint calculations and supporting procedures, providing an additional layer of credibility and accuracy.
How long does the carbon assessment process take?
The carbon assessment process can start immediately for historical reporting periods. The timeline depends on the availability of your organisation's data. Data collection, assessment and reporting should typically take 8-12 weeks.
How does Nero handle Scope 3 emissions?
Nero’s services include comprehensive Scope 3 emissions estimation covering upstream and downstream categories. The Nero GHG Calculator is equipped with a number of emission factors, including spend-based, mass-based, and the ability to add supplier-specific emission factors.
